Dr. Hannah Byrd was born in Dallas, Texas and soon after moved to Northern Virginia, where she grew up. She went to high school in Arlington, Virginia and college at Virginia Tech in beautiful Blacksburg, Virginia. She then took a year off and took a research technician position at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee. There, she did research with both the Oncology and Nutrition departments. Dr. Byrd then attended veterinary school at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Byrd loved her time in Tennessee but is definitely a VT Hokie at heart! She then went on to complete a rigorous one year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus, New Jersey.
Dr. Byrd has had a love for both science and animals since she was a young girl. She owes much of her love for animals to having grown up with Border Collies and having relatives with many animals.
In vet school, Dr. Byrd developed a love for small animal medicine with an interest in Internal Medicine and Surgery. However, during her internship in New Jersey she developed a passion for emergency and critical care. Dr. Byrd is glad to be a part of a busy referral and emergency hospital such as VREC where she can continue to learn and grow in her skills as an emergency doctor.
When not at work, Dr. Byrd loves spending time outdoors with her Lab mix Dallas and her Shepherd/Collie mix Neptune. She is an avid runner and has participated in 3 marathons since starting vet school. She loves spending quality time with family and friends, hiking, movie watching, relaxing, and reading.
Dr. Byrd is happy to be in NEPA where there are lots of outdoor activities and is happy to be part of our VREC team!
