Jolynn grew up in the mountains of Tunkhannock, PA. As a child, she was constantly bringing wild animals home – rabbits, kittens, crayfish, snakes, turtles, and frogs. It didn’t matter, she loved them all! I remember helping at the local Rabies Clinics with her grandmother, filling out paperwork for owners, and being so interested in the Doctors and what they were doing. Attending Tunkhannock Area High School, Jolynn’s favorite class was zoology. While attending, she had an internship at a small animal clinic which also saw exotics and ‘pocket’ pets. She worked at an equine center cleaning stalls, feeding and exercising horses for three years. After being exposed to large, small and exotic animals, she knew exactly what she wanted to do. Jolynn enrolled in Johnson College’s Veterinary Technology program and obtained an Associates Degree in Applied Science – Veterinary Technology. After graduation, Jolynn completed an internship at the Kansas City Zoo – “I had the most amazing experiences”. “I loved working with wild animals and learning about their individual anatomy and the different unique adaptations for veterinary medicine to be applied.” Jolynn was able to perform dental cleanings on chimpanzees, anesthetize kangaroos, train leopards, obtain radiographs on toucans among many other tasks. After completing the internship, Jolynn moved to Virginia Beach where she found her ‘knack’ for emergency medicine. While in Virginia, she was able to serve as a wildlife rehabilitator. After a brief period, Jolynn pursued an opportunity and moved to Texas where she also continued to work a technician, however she eventually happily returned to Pennsylvania. Jolynn loves the adrenaline of emergency medicine. “Seeing different cases every day keeps me on my toes. As a parent, I know that bringing your pet in for an emergency can be extremely traumatic. I’m glad and proud to be part of a team that can bring what seems to be a helpless family member back into your home, safely.”
