Meet our newest Angel Fund recipient! Buster!
Buster was diagnosed with a Tibial Crest Avulsion Fracture due to a slight fall. Since Buster is a growing pup his bones are not fully mature. Growth of bone is the result of new bone being added to the ends of bones by growth plates. However, it is initially a thin layer of cartilaginous tissue where baby cells arrive and add to the bone. Buster had a fracture of his tibial tuberosity. In other words, the top front of his tibia separated from the rest of the bone and needed surgical repair. Every time Buster would bend his knee his patellar tendon (knee cap) would pull on the bone making the fracture worse.
Ultimately, Buster had surgery with some specially placed pins and wire. In the same day he was up and walking again! Growth plate fractures are quite common in puppies but they heal quickly. Buster is expected to return to his puppy romping in 6 weeks!
