Veterinary Technicians: Emergency/ICU (Full Time)
Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (VREC) currently seeks full-time Emergency/ICU Medicine Technicians to join our great family. Previous experience in the veterinary field strongly preferred.
Emergency Technicians are individuals who can work as a member of a team as well as on their own. Technicians must quickly and accurately complete tasks while in a fast-paced environment. They must also follow established guidelines, structure, and policies of the hospital while working alongside experienced clinicians, licensed technicians, and dedicated support staff. Our ideal candidate has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Emergency technicians are rotated through day and night shifts, and may be expected to work weekends and holidays.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Quickly and accurately assess a patient’s status
• Working alongside doctors and fellow technicians to provide patients the most complete care possible
• Performing anesthesia for minor procedures
• Performing in-patient treatments and administer a variety of medications
• Performing radiographs and submit to radiologist for review
• Running bloodwork through a variety of equipment
• Placing a variety of catheters (urinary catheters, central venous catheters, peripheral indwelling central catheters), nasal oxygen, and nasal feeding tubes

Veterinary Technicians: Surgery (Full Time)
Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (VREC) currently seeks an Anesthesia/Surgery Technician to join our great family. Prior veterinary experience is required. Preference will be given to an applicant with prior surgery experience.
Surgery Technicians are motivated, good humored, and compassionate technicians who possesses excellent communication skills, pay attention to detail, and desire to practice advanced medicine. Surgical Technicians are specially trained and certified to assist veterinarians with a variety of surgical procedures. These technicians are expected to follow guidelines, structure, and established policies of the hospital while working alongside experienced clinicians, licensed technicians, and dedicated support staff. Surgical technicians may be required to work nights or weekends depending on the schedules of the clinic.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Performing pre-surgical diagnostic lab tests
• Preparing and scrubbing surgical sites for sterile procedures
• Assisting the veterinarian during surgeries
• Bandaging wounds
• Changing wound dressings as needed
• Placing catheters
• Obtaining radiographs and anesthetic monitoring during surgical procedures
• Operating and maintaining surgical equipment
• Administering fluids
• Giving intravenous or intramuscular injections
• Drawing blood
• Updating patient charts
• Filling prescriptions
• Assisting with regular exams/rechecks when there are no surgeries scheduled
• Advising pet owners on post-operative care and medication dosages.

Veterinary Technician Assistant: Internal Medicine (Full Time)
Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (VREC) currently seeks a full-time Internal Medicine Assistant to join our great family. Previous veterinary experience is required. Assistants may receive on-the-job training to tailor skills and abilities to this specialty department.
Assistants have a wide variety of responsibilities including cleaning, stocking supplies and maintaining the cleanliness of the Internal Medicine (IMed) suite. They provide assistance to doctors and technicians, aid with patient care, and must demonstrate humane restraint techniques for ultrasounds and procedures. The Imed department is a team-oriented environment, and assistants must be able to clearly communicate to all members of the IMed staff to ensure cohesive care for both the patient and client.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Practicing humane restraint and assisting with examinations, procedures, radiographs, and blood draws
• Assisting with procedure preparation
• Executing proper cleaning protocols for a variety of situations: general ICU patients (cages and runs,) isolation cases, rabies suspects, chemotherapy administration areas or cages, radioactive iodine room, and deep cleaning protocol (hospital wide)
• Cleaning endoscope
• Running a variety of equipment, such as the ultrasound machine, ultrasonic cleaner, steam autoclave, washer/dryer, warming devices, gurney, and knowledge of the assembly of endoscopy machine
• Identifying appropriate in-hospital lab sample and running requested test
• Ensuring outgoing lab samples are carefully packaged and contain appropriate documentation
• Maintaining cleanliness of the IMed suite
• Maintaining and stocking supplies in the IMed suite, radiology, bathrooms, outside (kennel yard, front of building)
• Ensuring materials needed are documented on the stocking list
• Learning and using laboratory and radiographic software
• Learning and using Cubex system
• Documenting voids/ walks on patient treatment sheets
• Documenting completed daily/ weekly/ monthly tasks on appropriate task sheets
• Accurately recording outgoing blood work labs
• Entering patient data into ultrasound machine, and endoscopy machine
• Clearly and accurately communicating concerns or knowledge to other members of the VREC staff including doctors, technicians, assistants, and Client Service Representatives.
• Act as a liaison between the clinician and other technicians
• Familiarity with/ ability to learn how operate a multi-line phone/ paging system
