Chance presented to VREC after being seen by his primary care veterinarian for vomiting. His referring veterinarian took radiographs of Chance’s abdomen, which showed an intestinal foreign body that would require additional diagnostics. After a comprehensive exam at VREC, it was recommended that Chance have a surgical exploratory surgery in an attempt to retrieve the foreign body.
After qualifying for the Angel Fund, an enterotomy (surgical procedure of cutting open the intestine) was performed where a large rubber object was extracted. Post-operatively it was discovered that Chance had gotten up on the kitchen counter in his home and chewed/swallowed a rubber stopper of a child’s sippy cup.
Chance recovered well from his surgery and was sent home to recover with his family. His family has stepped up on keeping potentially hazardous items out of paw’s reach!
