Young Pit mix Cruella was seen at VREC when her family noticed she had no appetite with frequent vomiting for several days. They were especially concerned as they mentioned Cruella was a curious pup who sometimes got into things she shouldn’t.
Cruella was first seen by our Emergency department who performed radiographs which revealed material that was suspect of a foreign body. Foreign bodies occur when a pet eats some kind of non-food object that either cannot be passed or gets stuck in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Common clinical signs of a foreign body include vomiting, diarrhea, pain when touching the abdomen, lethargy, and loss of appetite.
After qualifying for the Angel Fund, Cruella was transferred to our surgery department. An exploratory surgery was performed and “the object” was removed from her intestines…in this case, a sock!
