Daxine presented at VREC for suspicion of a foreign body obstruction. She had been seen by her primary care veterinarian for poor appetite, vomiting and weight loss. Her family tried several treatment plans before returning to the veterinarian who recommended a transfer to VREC immediately. Daxine wanted to eat and drink but was not able to keep food down and her weight quickly dropped.
After qualifying for the Angel Fund, an ultrasound was performed by our Internal Medicine department where it was recommended that abdominal exploratory surgery be performed. During surgery, a large amount of carpet material was removed from the stomach and several pieces of hard plastic were removed from the stomach and abdomen. Daxine spent several days hospitalized while recovering post-operatively and returned for a re-check shortly after. In the short time between surgery and recheck, Daxine had begun gaining weight back!
