German Shepherd mix puppy Sekani was being bold and jumped down a stairwell in her home. Shortly after, she refused to bear weight on her left forelimb. Her owner took her to their primary care veterinarian where she had radiographs were performed. Radiographs revealed Sekani was suffering from a humeral condylar fracture and her veterinarian recommended Sekani be seen at VREC.
Together with the radius and ulna, the humeral condyle makes up the elbow joint. Fractures of the humeral condyle are among the most common type of broken bone seen in dogs. After Sekani qualified for our Angel Fund, our surgery department treated Sekani’s fracture using internal screws and pins followed by a spica bandage to keep the bones in place during healing.
