Vinnie presented to VREC after his owners noticed he was straining to urinate. He had been seen at his primary care veterinarian the day before where a urinary catheter was placed. Vinnie had been doing well overnight but the symptoms began again in the morning.
After Vinnie and his family qualified for the Angel Fund, our emergency staff took bloodwork, a urinalysis and culture, and radiographs. The radiographs revealed that Vinnie had another urinary obstruction, most likely due to bladder stones. A cystotomy, or surgical incision into the urinary bladder, was performed to remove these stones. The stones were submitted for analysis to ensure no further treatment is needed. Vinnie did well with his procedure and was sent home the next day to recover.
