For Immediate Release –
The closures or limitations of primary care veterinary clinics during the COVID-19 crisis have led to
nationwide emergency services facing an unprecedented increased caseload. The cascade of patients from primary veterinarians to emergency services has stretched resources and capabilities while increasing staff burnout.
Due to our dedication to the community and to our family of dedicated doctors, technicians, and client service representatives, VREC is temporarily adjusting hours of operation for the Emergency Service. In an effort to offer clients emergency services on weekdays, we have begun implementing a schedule spread across all seven days of the week. This schedule will be based on doctor availability. Additional shifts may be added in the future. We encourage clinics and pet owners alike to contact us or follow us on social media for additions to this schedule.
As of today, our Emergency Service will be open in October on the following days and times:
Oct 5- 7a-1p
Oct 6- 7a-1p
Oct 7- 7a-1p
Oct 12- 7a-1p
Oct 13- 9a-1p
Oct 14- 7a-1p
Oct 19- 7a-1p
Oct 20- 7a-1p
Oct 21- 7a-1p
Oct 26- 7a-1p
Oct 27- 7a-1p
Oct 28- 7a-1p
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR PETS AND PET OWNERS?
While our Emergency Service hours are temporarily limited, the hospital remains open 24 hours a day for
calls or concerns. Referral departments (Cardiology, Surgery, Physical Rehabilitation, and Internal Medicine) will continue to schedule appointments and operate without disruption. Pets requiring hospitalization will continue to be monitored 24/7 by our talented staff, regardless of department.
Pet owners who feel their pet is experiencing an emergency when our Emergency Services are unavailable must seek care at primary care veterinarian, urgent care, or elsewhere. Owners without a current primary care veterinarian are encouraged to contact VREC should they need assistance locating vet clinics in their area.
Veterinarians may contact VREC’s Internal Medicine or Surgery services to transfer these services or may make recommendations for care elsewhere. VREC can provide a list of emergency facilities in the region that owners may consider calling in the event of an emergency.
Our amended Emergency Service schedule is temporary and is being evaluated closely. We are optimistic we will return to normal operations soon. We will announce changes to the Emergency Service’s schedule as soon as possible.
VREC remains committed to providing superior care to our community, patients, clients and regional veterinarians. We look forward to return to 24/7 emergency intake as soon as possible.
