Critical Care Services when your Pet Needs it Most
VREC’s Critical Care department functions to support all patients in the hospital. Critical Care monitors and treats patients who have sudden emergency needs or those who are critically ill. This includes, but is not limited to: trauma, shock, respiratory concerns, neurological concerns, organ failure, heart failure, sepsis, blood transfusions, and post-operative complications. Patients from any department at any time may utilize the service.
Designed off of intensive care units in a human hospital, VREC’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) allows round-the-clock supervision and compassionate, medically appropriate care. Our staff’s workstation (known as the ‘bridge’) is centrally located in the treatment area, allowing a full 360° view of hospitalized patients. This ensures that no pet is out of sight at any time.
Our Critical Care department has specialized equipment at their disposal, such as a mechanical ventilator, constant cardiac monitoring, blood transfusion capabilities from our in-house blood bank, on-site MRI, and fully-stocked pharmacy. Customized nutritional support is also available.
