Critical Care Services When Your Pet Needs It Most
The Critical Care department functions to support the hospital and all its patients. Whether your pet comes in as a walk-in emergency or as a transfer from your primary care veterinarian, any patient can utilize the service. Our Critical Care department handles patients who have sudden emergency needs or those who are critically ill – including but not limited to: trauma, shock, respiratory concerns, neurological concerns, organ failure, heart failure, sepsis, blood transfusions, and post-operative complications.
Just like the intensive care unit in a human hospital, VREC’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) allows us to offer around-the-clock supervision and compassionate, medically appropriate care. If your pet should require it, our Critical Care department has specialized equipment at their disposal such as a mechanical ventilator, constant cardiac monitoring, blood transfusion capabilities from our in-house blood bank, on-site MRI, and specialized medications from our pharmacy. Customized nutritional support options are also available.
