For Immediate Release –
The closures or limitations of primary care veterinary clinics during the COVID-19 crisis have led to nationwide emergency services facing an unprecedented caseload, stretched resources, and increased staff burnout. Due to our dedication to the community and to our family of dedicated doctors, technicians, and client service representatives, VREC has made the decision to temporarily adjust our Emergency Service’s hours of operation.
In an effort to offer clients emergency services on weekdays, we have implemented a schedule spread across all seven days of the week. This schedule is based on doctor availability. Additional shifts may be added. We encourage clinics and pet owners alike to contact us or follow us on social media for additions to this schedule.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR PETS AND PET OWNERS?
While our Emergency Service hours are temporarily limited, the hospital remains open 24 hours a day for calls or concerns. Referral departments – Cardiology, Surgery, Physical Rehabilitation, Exotic Medicine, and Internal Medicine – will continue to schedule appointments and operate without disruption. Any pet requiring hospitalization will be monitored 24/7 by our talented staff. Pet owners who feel their pet is experiencing an emergency when the Emergency Services are unavailable must seek care at primary care veterinarian, urgent care, or elsewhere. Owners without a current primary care veterinarian are encouraged to contact VREC for assistance locating vet clinics in their area.
Veterinarians may contact VREC’s Internal Medicine or Surgery services to transfer, or may wish to make recommendations for care elsewhere. Our staff can provide a list of emergency facilities in the region which owners may consider calling in the event of an emergency. Find that list here.
Our amended Emergency Service schedule is temporary. We hope to return to normal operations soon. Any/all changes to the Emergency Service schedule will be announced as soon as they arise. VREC remains committed to providing superior care to our community, patients, clients and regional veterinarians. We look forward to returning to 24/7 emergency intake as soon as possible.
